ARTICLE VIII - VACANCIES

(a) The Executive Board shall have the authority to fill temporarily any vacancy of elected offices until an election is held with the exception of Chief Stewards and District Stewards.

(b) Notification shall be given to the Membership and nominations for filling the vacancy shall be held at the next regular Membership Meeting.

(c) Elections to fill vacancies of the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Recording Secretary, Sergeant-at-Arms, Shop Chairperson, Skilled Trades Chairperson, Executive Board Member, Trustee, Strike Fund Member shall be filled in elections held at the Union Hall. Elections to fill such vacancies shall be conducted by Election and Counting Committee members, the number to be determined by the Executive Board, and the time to be limited to 24 hours in length. Elections to fill vacancies not stipulated in this Section shall be held at the membership meeting following their respective nominations.

(d) Candidates for the office of Skilled Trades Chairperson (who must be members of Skilled Trades) shall be elected at a special meeting set by the Executive Board.

(e) Vacancies of Chief Steward and District Steward positions shall be filled temporarily by the Shop Chairperson.

(f) The Shop Chairperson shall call a special meeting within thirty (30) days of a permanent vacancy of Chief Steward or District Steward for the purpose of the nomination and election to fill the term. The election shall be conducted in accordance with the procedure for regular elections of Chief Stewards and District Stewards.
