ARTICLE XVIII - STRIKE FUND
(a) A permanent committee, known as the Strike Fund Committee, shall be established to administer the Local 808 Strike Fund.
(b) The Strike Fund Committee shall be composed of the Local President, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and four (4) elected Strike Fund Committee Members.
(c) An elected Committee Member´s failure to attend two out of three successive Committee meetings, unless excused, shall be considered as a resignation from office. Temporary replacement will be made by the Executive Board.
(d) All decisions by the Committee shall be made by majority vote. Voting shall be required on decisions relating to the deposit, investment or withdrawal of Strike Fund monies, the conversion of securities, questions of members´ eligibility and the payment of strike benefits.
(e) A two-thirds (2/3) majority of Committee members present shall constitute a quorum.
(f) Each Committee member shall have one (1) vote.
(g) All meetings shall be called by the President. The President shall call at least one meeting quarterly. They shall be called in the months of January, April, July and October.
(h) The Committee shall be empowered to appoint all help necessary for it to carry out its duties.
(i) Each member must fulfill all of the following requirements in order to be considered eligible for strike benefits.
(i-1) The member is engaged in an authorized strike action taken in complete compliance with the Local Constitution or the member has, during and as a direct result of a strike by a portion of the membership, been laid off by the employer.
(i-2) On the first day of strike action, the member is actively employed by the employer against whom the strike action is taken.
(i-3) The member performs no services for the employer.
(i-4) The member performs assigned duties during the strike action.
(i-5) The member must have been a member of the local for at least one full year or joined the Local within ninety days after his or her seniority date.
(j) Payment of strike benefits:
(j-1) Payments shall begin after the Local has been on strike for two (2) weeks and continue for one (1) week after the strike ends.
(j-2) In the event of a strike of less than two (2) weeks duration, the Committee shall be authorized to issue a special strike benefit to eligible members.
(j-3) The regular strike benefits shall be fifty dollars ($50.00) per eligible member.
(j-4) If the Strike Fund reserves should fall below fifty dollars ($50.00) per eligible member, the amount of the strike benefit shall be set by the Committee.
(j-5) If the Strike Fund reserve should fall below ten thousand dollars ($10,000) no strike benefits shall be paid.
(j-6) Any subsequent rebuilding of the Strike Fund assets shall not make the Strike Fund liable for the retroactive payment of strike benefits for those weeks the strike benefits are less than the regular amount.
(k) All Strike Fund monies are to be deposited in government supervised depositories or invested in government securities under the name of the Local 808 Strike Fund.
(l) The Strike Fund monies and interest shall be used for no purpose other than direct payments to members who qualify for strike benefits. However, a portion of the interest generated from the Strike Fund, as approved by the membership, shall be used only for the repair and maintenance of the union hall.
(m) Any member who is eligible to receive regular strike fund benefits of fifty dollars ($50.00) per week shall receive an additional $200.00 a week starting on the 15th day and increasing to $300 per week on the 29th day from the International. The final payment is a week after the end of the strike.
(n) A Strike Fund Financial Report shall be made to the Membership by the Financial Secretary at the next regular membership meeting following the quarterly meeting of the Strike Fund Committee.
