ARTICLE VI - ELIGIBILITY FOR OFFICE
(a) No person shall be eligible to hold an elective office or appointed position in this Local who has been convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude offensive to trade union morality, or who is commonly known to be a crook or racketeer preying on the labor movement. Determination of ineligibility under this section may be made only on the basis of charges filed and heard in accordance with the regular trial procedures of the Local. The trial body is empowered to consider any extenuating circumstances in determining eligibility of the person charged.
(b) No person shall be eligible to hold elective office or appointed position in the local who is disqualified for such position by applicable federal laws.
(b-1) Retired members in good standing shall not hold the offices of President, Vice President or any position requiring grievance handling or requiring the officer to be an active employee.
(c) Candidates for the following positions must meet the eligibility requirements of this Article, be members in good standing, (subject to retirees´ limitations) and shall be elected by secret ballot election.

Skilled Trades Chairperson

(d) The President shall appoint any and all necessary members to carry out the duties of any position not stipulated in this Article. The termination of the term of the position of any member appointed by the President shall expire at the end of the President´s current term or at any earlier time determined by the President.
(e) All members elected to positions or offices in the Local shall have the responsibility of attending such meetings as necessary for their proper function.
(f) Executive Board Members, Trustees, Strike Fund Committee Members, Chief Stewards, and District Stewards may be excused from attending the required meetings of the Executive Board, Strike Fund Committee, and Stewards Council if their absence is the result of Union business; or offers written proof of personal illness, illness or death in the family or vacation; subject to approval of the Executive Board.
